Palm Sunday

We finally made it to Palm Sunday! Everyone knows Palm Sunday as the start of Holy Week (and the Mass with the superrr long Gospel reading). This year though, I felt like I picked up on different things in the Passion Narrative than I normally do. Of course the Passion is all about Jesus and the events leading up to his death, but for me, the focus was on the people that were along side him during those events.

The events of Passion kind of made me think of things that happen in our daily lives. There are times where we totally deny Jesus, or there are times we are all for our faith. One day we could be “greeting Jesus with palms” and “throwing our cloaks” for him as we go through our lives with him, but then one second we change our entire attitude. Life is tough, and yeah, sometimes it’s not cool to be Catholic. Sometimes we’re a Peter and we deny Jesus. Other times we can be a Judas, and totally just trade in Jesus for something that sounds more fun or pleasing to us. However, after all of those times, Jesus still dies on the cross for us. He is still there for us, even when we aren’t there for him. An entire crowd literally screamed “crucify him,” yet Jesus still knew that he was dying for all of them.

As St. Therese said, ““Trust and trust alone should lead us to love.” We need to trust Jesus in that even though it may be a long and hard road, if we stay by him, we will be led to love. We just gotta pick up our crosses and follow him and trust he will be there for us in the end. The thief who was being crucified next to Jesus trusted that he was actually the Son of God and that he would be saved in his time of suffering. We just need to trust in God and that he will lead us to that love that we desire. It may be hard, but if we start to trust him with the little things in our lives, we will be able to trust him with the major things.

I’m going to take those thoughts into Holy Week with me, and try to remember to trust Jesus with each trial in my life and know that he wants to be there for me once I pick up my cross and follow him. Have a blessed Palm Sunday and don’t forget to make your palm cross!
